Portions of a journal relating to a boat trip on the Ohio River, June 1846; account of service on board U.S.S. "Saranac," April, 1853, relating to delays in making repair, description of Norfolk, VA., etc; account of a cruise on board U.S.S. "Merrimac" from Rio de Janiero to Valparaiso, Dec. 1857 to Feb. 1858, describing cities visited, Christmas dinner on board, passage around Cape Horn, ship routine, sea birds, etc; continued cruise from Callao, Peru, to Honolulu, Hawaii, description of Callao and Lima, the President's Ball, bull fight, life and food aboard ship, etc. Last entry dated Oct. 12, 1858
